I was reading THE TIMES ONLINE tonight (a 1984 story from their archives about the discovery of the Higgs Boson particle in case you were wondering) when I spotted the below quote from Napoleon. Click on the image to get taken to The Times site where you can read a story from 1809 about a letter Napoleon wrote to Czar Alexander.

Fascinating stuff Cameron. Napoleon was spinning the peace treaty so much he had probably generated his own gravitational field.
Cameron,
I just went to check out the archive of the podcasts, and they are not longer there.
Just thought you should know
Steve, where were you looking? The correct url is:
http://napoleon.thepodcastnetwork.com/category/podcast/feed/
I discovered your podcast a couple of weeks ago and only have to listen to 32 more of ’em to catch up. Napoleon101 is one of the best podcasts (in any category) I’ve found. The format, the interplay between the two of you, the “asides”, the expertise and the subject make it addictive. What will I do when you’re done?
Actually, I hope David will tackle Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar/Ancient Rome for us….please?
I’m a Kiwi, born in the UK and living in California and, consequently, have listened to Oz insults all my life. You lighten up in later episodes, right, Cameron?
Hi Jen! Welcome to our little show. I would love to stop making fun of kiwis but we’re forced to do it! The Aussie Seeekret Police come around and check up on us every month to make sure we’ve hit our quota of Kiwi insults. I’m so, so sorry.
Perhaps the Oz/Kiwi thing would settle down when they build that bridge from New Zealand to Australia so you can get to meet each other a bit more.
Colin, we DID build a bridge – but we quarantine the sheep when they get to this side and the kiwis refuse to be separated from their sheep so… it just didn’t work out. 🙂
The Times archive is a decent first-hand [English] news view. Here is the story of Lord Nelson’s other last words: http://archive.timesonline.co.uk/tol/viewArticle.arc?articleId=ARCHIVE-The_Times-1805-11-07-03-003&pageId=ARCHIVE-The_Times-1805-11-07-03&pageId=undefined
I read the other columns with great interest, especially the one about the troop movements in northern Germany.
Love the Podcast, you guys are doing a great job. I must have listened to every podcast a least twice over the last 3 months. Also thoroughly enjoying the Biography podcast, how about doing a show on Augustus or Belisarius the Byzantine general who reconquered lost parts of the Roman Empire under Justinian.
Just wondering what you consider to be the best book on Napoleon’s time as First Consul as i really want find out more about this period.
Hey guys quick question. Does anyone know of a book dealing with napoleonic espionage as the main idea? Thanks
Cameron,
That is the same link that I used, I have it in my favorites and everything, and it still appears that there is nothing on the list. I am at college right now, so it might have something to do with that, but I was listening to it earlier at the begining of the semester. Is anyone else having this problem?
By the way, just wanted to thank you for the recommendation you made via the podcasts about David Chandler’s “The Campaigns of Napoleon”, it’s a great book.
